10 Iconic Classical Songs You Only Know Because Of The Movies

Batman

Classical music is, in an extremely simply attempt to decribe a genre of music, exactly what it says on the tin. Music that has stood the test of time and (especially in today€™s age of instant and worldwide community, communication and critique) transcended audiences to be recognised as some of the finest that man has produced. Works that hundreds of years later are still heard and enjoyed by millions of people shows the power and passion that can come from likes of Mozart and Bach.

To me, a fascinating experience that we get to enjoy is when one of our still relatively young art forms, the moving image, meets the timeless classical works in new and unexpected ways. What comes from this is a surprisingly high recognition of classical music without actually engaging with the medium directly. There are some works that we have almost literally all heard before and quite often it is down to scenes from films. This is what this particular article is all about. Highlighting the moments when art forms that chronologically are massively separated come together to give us something fantastic.

Video links will be provided for each entry as I guide you through the music you may have heard countless times before but haven€™t always been able to pin the actual names or artists to. Let€™s start with an honourable mention of David Fincher€™s exceptional thriller...

Honourable Mention: Air On The G String From Se7en

Depending on what your school€™s policies on music during assemblies was you€™ve likely either heard this song occasionally or every week for your entire primary school education. In Se7en, we have Detective Mills and Somerset flick through the violent depictions of deadly sins and the crime scene photographs to Bach€™s Air n the G String. It€™s a tremendous balance between the peace and quiet of both men researching at a library (Somerset) and at home (Mills) considering the horrific nature of the ideas and images they are researching.
