10 Iconic Directors Who Don't Have A Film In The IMDb Top 250

9. Sofia Coppola

Best Known For: The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, The Bling Ring Most Deserving IMDb Top 250 Candidate: Lost in Translation Sofia Coppola has a highly divisive body of work, all things considered, but few can argue with the fact that Lost in Translation is one of the greatest movies of the past fifteen years. Not only does the film contain Bill Murray's best ever screen performance (indeed: he was nominated for an Oscar for his role as melancholic film star Bob Harris), but the picture affirmed Coppola's standing as an iconic director with her own unique filmmaking voice. Not bad for the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, who made some of the greatest motion pictures of all time in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. Lost in Translation is by far Coppola's best work to date, but there are other great pictures, too, including The Virgin Suicides (her debut) and the underrated Somewhere. Less acclaimed was The Bling Ring, but even that has its fans. Lost in Translation scores a 7.8, Coppola's highest-rated film on the site, but even that seems rather low.
