10 Iconic Movie Characters With Less Screen Time Than You Think
4. Winston Wolfe - Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is an anthology tale at heart, though if you had to pick the stars you’d probably be looking at Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield, played by John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson. After that, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames play the characters with the biggest roles.
Despite this, Harvey Keitel is fourth billed, despite his character Wolfe hardly being in the movie at all.
He’s in a single scene towards the end, one which is tangential to the movie’s plot, but he’s many people’s favourite character. He’s in the movie less than Tarantino himself, who people often forget even had a director’s cameo.
Even in a movie as sharp as Pulp Fiction, Wolfe has the most biting lines and establishes himself quickly as one of the smartest players in the film. He lets us see another side of Vincent and Jules too, developing their character more.
It’s a shame that such an iconic character has been sold out to promote Direct Line adverts, but it doesn’t diminish the watching experience of Pulp Fiction. In a film so great, you’d be hard pushed to argue he ‘makes’ the movie, but it certainly wouldn’t be the same without him.
