10 Iconic Movie Costumes Actors Hated Wearing
1. Jim Carrey – The Grinch
How the Grinch Stole Christmas is not your typical snow-white innocent Christmas movie. Though it ends in a similar fashion, the ride their is darker than your traditional X-mas movie fare. However, Jim Carrey's time as The Grinch was more Guantanamo Bay than gingerbread house.
The make-up, prosthetics, and wardrobe required Carrey to endure an eight hour transformation at the start of every filming day. In the process, which Carrey compared to being buried alive, he was swamped with facial prosthetics, head-to-toe yak fur, and contact lenses that proved a draw to the blizzard of fake snow on the set.
Carrey reportedly dealt with the itchiness and claustrophobia by smoking, hitting himself on the leg, and requesting others to hit him. Carrey's mental state worsened so bad that producers were forced to bring in an expert who'd trained CIA operatives techniques for resisting torture.
Carrey's hatred of the costume not only impacted him negatively. The process of putting the eccentric actor into his Grinch get-up was responsible for make-up artist Kazuhiro Tsuji seeking therapy.
Fortunately, for all involved, the crew were able to get the process of applying the make-up down to two hours and a further hour for removal. Though, it was still unpleasant for Carrey.
