8. Bruce Willis' John McClane
Speaking of
Die Hard fans, one can just imagine the online uproar if the now 21st Century Fox ever decided to replace Bruce Willis and reboot the franchise from scratch. Willis single-handedly made the character of John McClane an icon for action movie lovers. It could happen, though, as the
Die Hard franchise showed signs of fatigue with its latest installment,
A Good Day to Die Hard, earning the lowest domestic total in the history of the franchise. That statistic holds up even without adjusting for inflation. Despite a sixth script being commissioned, the
Die Hard series could be headed for a shelf upon which it can collect dust. A decade or two down the road (or maybe sooner), there will be nothing stopping a director or studio head from pulling
Die Hard out of the archives and putting ideas together for a modernized reboot. Bruce Willis will not fit the mold, and a younger actor will be sought out. Any action movie fan with a functioning memory will probably object, making it hard for the studio to find an actor it can justify as a worthy successor. There is only one voice capable of selling the famous Yippee ki yay line. Best of luck to the next guy who tries.
