10 Iconic Movie Scenes You Didn't Realise Happened By Accident

6. The Dark Knight - Heath Ledger Reacts To Not Knowing What Came Next

The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger's accompanying role of The Joker makes for one of the finest comic book films ever made. Ledger's portrayal of an unstable, anarchic Joker won him a posthumous Oscar, and rightfully so.

The Joker wouldn't be the Joker without causing some laughter amongst the chaos, though, and there's no better example of this than the now-iconic scene of Joker fiddling with a remote detonator.

The Joker's overall plan included bombing Gotham General Hospital (because that's what anarchists do,) but it didn't quite work out at first. The initial effects explosions went off as planned, but Ledger wasn't aware the explosions were going to stop before the large bridge part of the hospital behind him finally exploded and collapsed.

During this pause in the action, Ledger, in character, does what anyone would do - looks around, raises his hands in frustration, pushes the button several times, and finally slaps the remote, before genuinely reacting to the last explosions.

The fact that Ledger stayed completely in character, despite wearing a nurse's smock and not knowing what the hell was going on, show why for some people he is THE Joker, and why he earned that Oscar.
