10. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
To be fair, plenty of Terry Gillem's films could make great musicals. Many of his works function as absurdist films with deeper meanings relating to our society. Some might not even be made less insane by the introduction of song into them. I mean, Brazil might be less abstract if the characters did start constantly bursting into song. But just give a thought to what a drug fueled musical version of Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas might look like. It would certainly be messy, but totally interesting none the less. Imagine Raoul Duke breaking into song while on a drug fueled rampage. At the pace that he talks, you might even be ale to adapt it into a rap. The incoherent mumbling of a drugged up reporter in song form could help further sell the insanity of the drug sodden reality he is living in. Or it might not at all. Like I said before, it is all pretty abstract in a fever dream kind of way. I bet I could convince a few people it was always a musical, it is that zaney. It would just be a great production to see on stage if done right.
Songs: "This was the Sixth Reich" "This is bat country" "I want to study its habits." "I'm a doctor of journalism man!"
