6. Requiem For A Dream

Requiem for a Dream is a film all about excess, which as we have established earlier, makes great musical content. Centering on several main characters, we begin to see how addiction changes all their lives in different ways. Addiction to drugs, food, money and fame all turn out...well, about as well as you might expect. Darren Aronofsky's film is a horrific trip into our desires and aggressively portrays the downward spiral to attain them. This is why it is perfect musical territory. As I have said before, musicals are great for excess. Requiem for a Dream would work as a musical for the same reasons a horror adaption would. By exploring these character's addictive tendencies and need for more, you can make a great, if not deeply disturbing musical. Jared Leto could even take a break from being a rock star to reprise his role.
Songs: "Juice by Sara" "There's my three meals, Mr. Smartypants" "Ma? Ya on uppers?" I need a doctor, man, I can't take it man, my arm!"
