10 Important Star Wars Details That Are Almost Never Mentioned

9. How Palpatine Built A Star Destroyer Fleet Without Anybody Noticing

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker did such a bad job of explaining things that you had to go and play Fortnite if you wanted more context for the story. Even when the movie did explain things, these explanations were lazy and half-baked, such as Poe's regularly-memed line about how Palpatine has risen from the grave:

"Somehow... Palpatine has returned."

Thanks JJ, that clears things up!

Something else the movie doesn't explain is how exactly Palpatine managed to build a massive fleet of souped-up Star Destroyers right under the New Republic's nose, a hugely important detail that the movie glosses over entirely.

Where did he get the materials? How did he equip each ship with a planet-killing laser? How the heck did he finance this whole venture? With this fleet being the centerpiece of Palpatine's plan, it's unforgivable that the movie doesn't even try to explain it, and though extra backstory is available for those who want to do some homework, it's a total head-scratcher for folks who only watch the films.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
