10 Important Star Wars Details That Are Almost Never Mentioned

6. The Destruction Of The Death Star Brought The Empire's Followers Closer Together

The destruction of the first Death Star at the end of A New Hope was a huge victory for the Rebel Alliance, but if you look at it from the Empire's point of view, then it was nothing short of an act of terrorism.

The movies never touch on the fact that Luke murdered millions of innocent people when he blew up that planet-killing machine - all those janitors, technicians, and other support staff who were only working for the Empire because it was a job, or because they were too scared to leave.

Further still, it's highly likely that this mass-murder actually brought people in the Empire closer together rather than drawing them to the Rebels, and possibly even galvanized additional support for the Empire across the galaxy.

Though this angle was somewhat explored in 2017's Star Wars Battlefront II (the game puts you in control of an Imperial soldier who continues to serve the Empire after the destruction of the second Death Star), the movies never take the time to ponder such interesting details, with the ramifications of the Rebels' victories never being looked at from the opposing point of view.

It almost makes you want a Taken 2-style spinoff, where the father of a murdered Death Star janitor hunts down Luke to enact his revenge. Make it happen Disney.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
