10 Incredible Fan Films That Totally Succeeded Where Hollywood Failed
7. Pokémon: Apokélypse
It's a notion long since agreed upon that, if the Call Of Duty franchise is something designed for adults but mostly popular with children, then Pokémon is the spiritual opposite; a game designed almost exclusively for children, but with a fanbase that's now well into its late '20s and early '30s. Not that they'd ever admit it, but the game's core audience has been crying out for years now for something that they wouldn't feel guilty about enjoying.
Something a little darker, something a little rougher, something a little more, well, grown up. There's been nothing forthcoming from Nintendo, for obvious reasons, but there was a brilliantly put together fan film that went some way to scratching this particular itch. Taking the notion of Pokémon to its logical real-world conclusion, Apokélypse sets the game up as little more than outlawed animal brutality that's being used by the world's evilest factions to further their own gritty aims.
The story sees Ash embroiled with bribery, murder and gang warfare, with Jessie, James, Brock, Misty, Oak and Giovanni all making appearances. Visually speaking the whole thing looks incredible, even if a few of the monster approximations are a little bit off.
