Hélène Cattet's approach to filmmaking is an unusual one, as she co-writes and co-directs her work with her husband, Bruni Forzani. After a successful string of short films, the couple released their freshman feature Amer in 2009, and The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears in 2013.

Both films are reimagined homages to the old Italian Giallo horror movement of the 1960s and 1970s, serving up exquisite, decadent sets and colorful lighting. Amer explores the frightening sexual maturation of a young girl, while also delving into indulgent visuals and gorgeous camera angles. The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears follows a man whose wife has suddenly disappeared and his search throughout his grand old apartment building to find her. With many dream-like twists and turns, hidden rooms, and witchy activity the film leaves a flourished mark on the horror genre.

Cattet's third film, a horror western by the name of Let the Corpses Tan (2017) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival garnering less than favorable reviews. However, after Cattet and Forzani's initial artistic success it is likely the pair will go on to create many more inventive films.
