The screenwriter and director's breakout feature Goodnight Mommy (2014) sent shockwaves throughout the horror fandom. Co-written and co-directed alongside partner, Severin Fiala, the film focuses on twin brothers Elias and Lukas (the terrifying Elias and Lukas Schwarz) who begin to suspect their mother isn't who she says she is after her face is wrapped up in bandages following her reconstructive surgery after an accident.

This psychological horror film plays on the boys' delusions of youthful boyhood, leading the audience to question at each given turn what is real and what is imagined.

With a twist ending that shocks and stuns, Franz's use of violence and dread throughout the film leaves an audience walking away shakily wondering if their children's imaginations might be so active. Luckily for the film community, Franz and Fiala are back with a new horror film to be released this year, The Lodge.
