10 Incredible Movies That Barely Have Any Dialogue

1. The Artist

Whereas Man With A Movie camera is a genuine product of the silent era, The Artist is a brilliant homage to that time period. One of the things which makes the film - which was released in 2011 after being written and directed by Michel Hazanavicius - so compelling is its narrative, telling the story of George Valentin, an older silent film star who watches as the world of cinema is replaced by modern "talkies".

Seeing cinema legends like John Goodman and Malcolm McDowell perform in a silent movie is a brilliantly novel experience, and French actors Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo do a fantastic job as the central characters. The music, too - composed largely by Ludovic Bource - is beautiful, and goes a long way in evoking the emotion of the story.

The Artist went on to win five Academy Awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, proving there's a lot more to telling a great story than lengthy, intricate dialogue.
