10 Incredible Movies That Barely Have Any Dialogue
8. WALL-E
The first twenty-two minutes of Pixar's 2008 masterpiece WALL-E contain nothing in the way of talking. Instead, it focuses on introducing us to the film's world, depicting a futuristic earth abandoned and contaminated by an overabundance of garbage. All that's left is WALL-E, a scrap robot whose silent determination to clean up an insurmountable heap of trash signifies him as our hero.
Later, when WALL-E meets robot probe EVE, the two begin communicating, but even then, it's not through lengthy dialogue. Instead, its the way in which the two say each other's names that shows us what they truly mean: it's all about a single word's weight, tone and context.
Brilliant too is the film's ability to inject so much life into two inherently "lifeless" entities through beautiful animation. Who ever thought we'd see robots using body language? WALL-E shows it's possible. Towards the end of the movie there are a bunch of human characters who speak, but by then a solid foundation has been built on poignant silence.
