10 Incredible Movies That Barely Have Any Dialogue

3. No Country For Old Men

It's amazing how - despite relying on very minimal dialogue - No Country For Old Men is known for its strikingly memorable monologues, such as Anton Chigurh's (Javier Bardenm) "coin toss" speech.

Yet the film really is spare on its words. Actor Josh Brolin - who plays Llewelyn Moss, a man who stumbles upon two million dollars in drug money and starts to flee across Texas - initially expressed nervousness with having so little to work with. Yet according to director Joel Coen it was this very thing that drove him to the project, enamoured by the idea that the film's characters should be defined by what they do and what they're willing to do in order to survive, rather than what they say.

There are frequent stretches of silence across the films two-hour run time, a silence all the more punctuated by the fact there's no music, either. In this way all attention is on the characters and how they act and react to the world around them.
