10 Incredible Movies With ONE Unnecessary Scene

4. Jabba - Star Wars: The Special Edition

Crazy Stupid Love
Lucasfilm

It's common knowledge amongst Star Wars fans that a scene was shot for the original film of Han Solo confronting Jabba, who was portrayed by Declan Mulholland. George Lucas intended to replace the actor with a stop-motion creature but ultimately had it scrapped.

But when Lucas re-released the Star Wars trilogy in 1997, he had this scene re-inserted by replacing Mulholland with a CGI Jabba. Now, the most common complaint this scene receives is how Jabba's design looks unpolished.

But even if Jabba looked spot-on, his interaction with Han is unneeded. Because Jabba repeats everything we heard in the previous scene, we don't learn anything new. This scene also doesn't correlate with the character since Jabba acts submissively here while he's depicted as a ruthless gangster in the rest of the franchise.

Since the vast majority hated this scene so much, you'd assume Star Wars fans could just watch the old version, right? But after the special edition trilogy was released, it was really difficult to track down the original movies.

So, if this was the version of Star Wars you were stuck with, the only way of avoid this pointless scene was to fast-forward it.
