10 Incredibly Annoying Characters Who Almost Ruined 2013 Movies

6. Champ - Anchorman 2

There is no doubting that David Koechner offered a hilarious performance as Champ Kind in the first Anchorman: he was brilliantly chauvinistic, wonderfully grotesque and beautifully overblown in a cast of hugely colourful caricatures and a movie whose irreverence made his presence feel appropriate. He was an extreme among extremes, and he was undoubtedly a strong ingredient in the character dynamic of the movie. But Anchorman 2 was different. It would be churlish to ignore the fact that the film was met with concerns that the concept would be made to look one-note, and moments and features that were so well received in the first movie would fall flat and feel entirely unwelcome. That much was true, unfortunately for Champ. Though he had his moments - usually as part of ensemble comedy moments - Champ feels too much like the butt of a joke, as opposed to a clown who is in on the act. Brian and Brick are likeable on their own, and can hold up scenes, but Champ has very few redeemable factors, having seen his anchoring love of Ron all but stripped away, and his shock factor is reduced massively from the first film.
