10. Now You See Me
As you might expect, this magical bank robbery involves a lot of misdirection, pizzazz and intelligence. What you are led to believe is happening could not be further from the truth. Youre looking this way and theyre going the other way. This film is pretty new and Im very conscious about giving out any spoilers for anyone who hasnt seen it. Personally I would advise against paying to watch it, but this isnt a review article so Ill leave the criticism of its all style no substance crappiness at the end of this sentence. Its no secret that in Now You See Me (as shown in the trailers) a man is teleported from a Las Vegas stage magic show into a French bank by four of the best magicians in the world. He is encouraged to rob it and the ill-gotten gains are then dropped on to the delighted audience. The robbery is one of the more interesting and entertaining moments of the film. We all love magic and being fooled, but at the end of the day we know its not real. Of course there are movies where it often is, but this one is set in the real world, so you know there is a trick to it and patiently await the reveal. Until it is explained, the pledge, the turn and prestige sections of this particular trick are enough to invoke curiosity and watching the confused audience member-turned amateur bank robber stumble around inside the vault is amusing. Sadly like all magic tricks, when you know how one works it is a bit disappointing. But for a few moments in Now You See Me, you are glad to be fooled.
