If you're looking to find the reason why Adam Sandler continues to make films of often dreadful quality then unfortunately you have to look no further than the box office - despite being execrable movies which cause offence on most levels imaginable, people continue to flock to the cinemas to watch films like Grown Ups 1 and 2 or Jack And Jill. It's easy to lay into Adam Sandler for doing what he does - and he's produced at least a dozen movies for which he should be sent directly into cinematic purgatory - but the real sin is that, when he puts his mind to it, he's actually a pretty good actor. It's the familiar case of a potentially great performance being ruined by playing it over the top when understatement is what's really called for. If you're not a fan of Adam Sandler or his frequent collaborators then you'd probably be wise to steer clear of his next film Pixels. Although with a cool-sounding premise and Peter Dinklage as co-star, even the most hardened Adam Sandler critics might be cutting off their noses to spite their face if they miss it.
