If there's one thing that Mad Max: Fury Road has proved it's that it's possible to do the tough female action star without having to descend into cliches - Charlize Theron nailed the character Furiosa without flaws and it's one of the best performances of her career. If Theron represents a truly strong and independent action heroine, the characters frequently associated with Michelle Rodriguez sit at the other end of the scale, where simply having a woman firing guns or kicking the ass of a roomful of men counts for strength, despite the fact that the clothes she wears and the camera angles chosen reduce her to the same level of sexual objectification we've come to expect from Michael Bay. Perhaps it's not Rodriguez's fault that she's become endlessly typecast in the same roles film after film, but after the huge success of Fast And Furious 7 it's highly unlikely her agent will be suggesting a change in tact any time soon.
