10 Incredibly Popular Movie Heroes Who Are Totally Overrated

8. Richard B. Riddick - The Riddick Series

The fact that Vin Diesel's most emotionally expressive performance to date is probably his voice work for Brad Bird's The Iron Giant speaks volumes about his commitment to delivering well-rounded characters. From XXX to the Fast and Furious series, like the other bald action star Jason Statham, he essentially plays himself from one film to the next, presumably making rehearsals much easier for him. Yet for some reason, action fans often make an exception for the character of Riddick, citing him as Diesel's best creation by far - the ultimate bad-ass, mysterious and cool, capable of handling any situation thrown at him. It's unfortunate, then, that regardless of the predicament Riddick faces, his expression never changes - whereas some characters pull off this kind of stoicism with ease (think of Clint Eastwood playing "The Man With No Name") Vin Diesel seems to take the notion of wooden acting to entirely new levels. At least the filmmakers had the good sense to bring the character back to basics in the latest movie with a pared down story of basic survival - seeing him flounder around in a poorly thought out "epic" as in The Chronicles of Riddick was an experience even his fans would rather forget.
