10 Incredibly Popular Movie Heroes Who Are Totally Overrated

7. Frodo Baggins - The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy

Anyone familiar with J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy understands that Frodo Baggins isn't meant to be your traditional hero along the lines of swordsman Aragorn. Rather, Frodo is something of an unexpected hero, out of his depth with the task at hand, but with a character pure and good capable of triumphing over any adversity which comes his way. At least in theory - unfortunately Frodo spends much of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy running away, hiding, getting captured and - frequently - getting rescued by other characters with far more get up and go than himself. In a nutshell, he behaves like a bit of a wet fish from start to finish, with a facial expression more often than not resembling a scared little boy, terrified of some imaginary creature lurking in the closet. This is particularly noticeable when you compare him to his faithful companion - and archetypal sidekick - Samwise Gamgee. In his defense, in one of his letters even Tolkien considered Sam to be the "chief hero", and he certainly behaves like one: from storming the orc castle in order to save Frodo, to defeating Shelob, by comparison it isn't difficult to see why Frodo is overrated. It's an assertion that no doubt Frodo himself would readily agree with.
