5. Chuck Fluffs His Lines - Shutter Island

Shutter Island's big twist that Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) is not a cop investigating a mysterious missing persons case but rather a patient at the Ashecliffe Institute battling to save his own mind. His partner Chuck (Mark Ruffalo) is in fact his doctor, using an innovative deep role playing exercise to help him "find" his sanity. It's the kind of twist that absolutely knocks the wind out of you.

But if you look hard enough, the film spoiled the fact that Chuck wasn't who he seemed early on and very clearly hinted that he wasn't a Federal Agent.

As the pair arrive on the island, they're asked to turn their weapons in and curiously, Chuck struggles with his gun holster, which an experienced US Marshall would absolutely not do. His basic firearms training would have put paid to that, and while Teddy is confused at the fumble, he brushes it off a lot easier than the audience should have.
