10 Indiana Jones Movies You Won't Believe Almost Happened

9. Indiana Jones And The Temple of Death

Indiana Jones Zombies Indy fans will know that, for the most part, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom came about as a result of the set-pieces that Spielberg wasn't able to fit into Raiders of the Lost Ark - George Lucas hired screenwriters Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz (who knew India, where the movie was to be set) to pen an original script that encompassed the missing parts. As Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom began to take shape, then, all sorts of ideas were thrown around - mostly by Lucas - who knew he wanted a plot about a ritual cult, but wasn't exactly sure where to take it. At one point, then, Lucas envisioned Temple of Doom as a sort of terrifying zombie movie, where the cult members who drank the blood of Kali were turned into mindless supernatural beings with special powers. This was eventually scrapped when it turned out the idea appealed to absolutely nobody, but there are still aspects of this plotline inherent in the final version of Temple of Doom, what with the blood drinkin' and the brainwashing. At this point, the script was called "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Death," but was later changed for being too morbid-sounding.
