10 Indications The Golden Globes Have Given Us For The Oscars

7. Jared Leto Is A Lock For Best Supporting Actor

One of 2013€™s best and most methodical performances came in under the radar; that performance is of course Jared Leto€™s embodiment of a transvestite stricken with AIDs in Dallas Buyers Club. The role isn€™t just a brilliant acting performance, but something Leto completely throws himself into, making for one of the big screen's most extraordinary transformations. Possible competition ranged from Barkhad Abdi€™s morally conflicted Somalian pirate in Captain Phillips or Michael Fassbender€™s ruthless slave owner in 12 Years A Slave, but the Academy and Golden Globes have agreed on this award every year since 2007, so barring a major upset, Leto is a lock. The only thing that could potentially hurt him are rumors that the Academy thinks less of his acting abilities due to his musical career, but that's exactly what they are: rumors. The bottom line is that his performance is brilliant and getting much deserved recognition. If you ask me he deserved an Oscar for his harrowing depiction of drug addiction in Requiem For A Dream, but this is just as worthy.
