1. Uwe Boll
Described as the 'Ed Wood of the 21st Century', Uwe Boll has inspired flak and hatred for his inept approach to film making. Amazingly, the man has a doctorate in literature. His career would have been less ignominious if he spent it in academia. Boll is well known for a series of video games to movie interpretations that have all been pretty dire. His films are notorious for bombing at the box office in America. House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark are two films which are regularly excoriated to the high heavens by critics and are used as examples to showcase the ineptitude of Boll's film making. Critics called the two films so bad that other 'bad' directors could say "Well at least I didn't direct those films". His name now inspires terror in the video game world. Rumours are that he wanted to make an adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. When the creator of the MGS games was questioned about Boll's interest, he nearly had a heart attack. Boll wanted to make a World of Warcraft film and was told the movie rights would not be sold "especially to you". You know that you are hated whenever the Guardian newspaper holds a petition for you to retire and it gets 1,000,000 signatures. Boll is always game to stand up for himself in the face of almost overwhelming critical hostility. He has rather maturely called some of his critics "retards" and told some of them to "go f**k your mother". He challenged them all to a boxing match which is a bizarre way to try and prove your worth with the critics - maybe you should start making decent films instead. Nevertheless, the boxing matches went ahead and Boll beat up his critics. If he put the dedication he spends on rubbing critics up the wrong way into films, he could come up with something fairly good. But probably not.
