10 Infamous Lines That Completely Ruined Decent Movies

Like the George Lucas prequels that came before it, The Last Jedi was a Star Wars film that didn't resonate with fans. Strong moments exploring the ever changing dynamic between Rey and Kylo Ren and the return of Yoda were largely undone by attempts at slapstick humour and a side quest to an alien planet that went nowhere.

Worst of all though was the characterisation of Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, who takes charge of the Rebellion fleet when Leia has a near death experience. Holdo is an extremely unlikeable character who refuses to listen to her subordinates, despite morale clearly dropping around her. Bizarrely, she doesn't let anyone know that she actually has a plan, leading many members of the rebel fleet, such as Poe, to rebel against her.

What makes the film so hard to stomach is its attempts to justify Holdo's decisions. With Poe and the now recovered Princess Leia on board an evacuation pod, Leia attempts to explain away Holdo's actions, stating that "she was more interested in protecting the light than seeming like a hero."

For some reason unknown to the audience, this line convinces Poe that Holdo's actions were justified all along. Had Leia told Poe information of a potential mole on board the rebel ship, or that the Vice Admiral made up for her poor decisions by her brave final act then the film could have been saved. Instead we are left with a justification of the unjustifiable that sealed an extremely forgettable film experience.
