10 Infamous Lines That Completely Ruined Decent Movies
5. "Cuckoo" - Spectre
There have been many an immortal line of dialogue delivered by Bond villains over the years. From "No Mister Bond, I expect you to die!" to "You only live twice, Mister Bond", the primary antagonist for the British spy has delivered some of the franchise's best moments.
One such line that will not make any list of best quotes from Bond villains is Ernst Blofeld's repetition of the word 'cuckoo' from the latest 007 entry, Spectre. Our introduction of Christoph Waltz's interpretation of the iconic villain is ruined by his exaggerated pronounciation of the word, undoing an otherwise powerful speech, instead making him sound like a deranged child.
Sadly the line is repeated on multiple occasions throughout the film, each time proving more grating than the last. Almost more painful than the delivery of the line is the painful explanation of the line's importance. As Blofeld explains ad nauseam throughout the final act, if a cuckoo bird hatches inside another bird's nest, it forces the other bird out.
The film rams home this metaphor for Blofeld's relationship with Bond, his father's favouritism for Ernst's adopted brother clearly getting to the villain. It comes across as a rather pathetic motivation for a Bond villain and is a major reason no-one warmed to Waltz's interpretation.
