2. Jupiter Ascending

The Wachowskis have always been known for their talents when it comes to eye-popping visuals, complex world-building and inventive action scenes, but they've always been let down by their writing and the heavy-handed way they seem to hammer home the themes of their scripts.

It sorely affected the back-to-back Matrix sequels, and had an even bigger impact on Jupiter Ascending, which marked yet another flop for a duo that were once regarded as two of Hollywood's most groundbreaking and innovative filmmakers. The movie has gained something of a second life, but most of that is down to how insane the whole thing is, along with Eddie Redmayne's unforgettable whisper/SHOUT/whisper performance.

With a budget hovering around the $200m mark, Jupiter Ascending was rumored to need at least $400m in revenue to come close to breaking even, but by the time the dust had settled on the Wachowskis' latest fascinating misfire it had topped out at just $183.9m.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
