5. Writing Their Own Movies - The Wachowskis

Accomplishments: Lana and Lilly Wachowski are of course best known for creating The Matrix franchise, and though not exactly awards darlings, the siblings won themselves a legion of devoted fans with their ground-breaking sci-fi masterpiece, no matter how uneven the two sequels were.

The Flaw: Now, you have to give the pair some credit: they wrote Bound and The Matrix themselves, and both were highly acclaimed by audiences and critics alike.

Since then, however, every single film they've written has been extremely divisive with audiences: The Matrix Reloaded was deemed incoherent, The Matrix Revolutions anti-climactic, V For Vendetta messy (though they didn't direct it), Speed Racer style over substance, Cloud Atlas confusing and overblown, and Jupiter Ascending...well, you probably saw it, hoping for an original sci-fi vision, right?

Though the Wachowskis have likely worn out any good will they had with Warner Bros., they could really do with taking their cues from someone else for a while, because they clearly struck gold with The Matrix and haven't been able to deliver a movie since that most agree upon as being rock solid. It's a damn shame, because even Jupiter had its splendid moments: who didn't love the magnificently-directed Chicago chase sequence?
