4. Obnoxiousness - Spike Lee

Filmmaker Spike Lee participates in AOL's BUILD Speaker Series to discuss his new film

Accomplishments: Two Oscar nominations and an Honorary Oscar to his name, and Lee's most iconic works are unquestionably Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X.

The Flaw: For every jaw-dropping, politically-charged movie Lee has made, there's one that feels excessive or overblown, and ends up coming across more as obnoxious and irritating. For every righteous monologue in a Spike Lee movie, there's a film where Lee shoves politics into the scenario even when it doesn't really fit (Inside Man, anyone?), and for many viewers, it results more in an eye-roll or a prolonged groan rather than an appreciation for Lee's evident activism.

That's not to say that Lee should keep his mouth shut, but just think long and hard about the projects he picks up before forcing his own commentary into them.
