8. Keller Was Found - Prisoners

Inception Dicaprio
Warner Bros.

Led by the ever-fantastic Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners was a rollercoaster of a thriller that went to some dark places. Keller and Detective Loki both looked into the disappearance of two young girls in their own very different ways.

By the conclusion of the movie, Jackman's Keller was left to die in a pit by the villainous Holly Jones. He blew his daughter's whistle to try and get the attention of anyone, but just before the movie was able to confirm for certain whether or not Gyllenhaal's Detective Loki heard, the screen cut to black.

Did he hear it? Did he find and save Keller? The movie leaves the question wide open, but screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski confirmed that the scene was continued on set, and an actual ending was shot. Quite simply, Loki moves the car, and finds where Keller is being kept.

Of course, the decision was made to stick with the ambiguous ending, and even though Guzikowski admits the natural assumption is that Loki hears the call, there was always the chance that he didn't until this confirmation.
