10 Infuriating Movie Endings That Pissed Fans Off
1. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012)
In the final entry of the universally beloved Twilight Saga, the Cullens round up their gang of superfriends to faceoff against the secret vampire coven, the Volturi, who seek the destruction of Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella's (Kristen Stewart) half-human, half-vampire lovechild that the former chewed from the latter's pregnant stomach - an infant girl who Jacob the twenty-something Quileute has 'imprinted' on.
All of this was standard fare to the dedicated fans who flocked to see it, but a jaw-dropping surprise lay in store, deviating from Stephenie Meyer's source material which had even the most hardcore Twi-Hards fretting at their dip-dyed bangs.
To stun fans of the films and books alike, director Bill Condon staged a brutal final battle between the two opposing factions of the ancient vampire cult and new age 'vegetarian' vampires and their allies. Blood is drawn, chasms tear open in the earth and main characters are slain in the ensuing fight - stakes which nobody saw coming, and which delivered a welcome reprieve from the largely harmless tone and outcome of the preceding four films, no doubt sending many Meyer fans streaming towards the exits.
Alas, the fun was not to last. In true Wizard of Oz fashion, the chaos turns out to be a dreamy vision shared by precognitive vampire Alice with Aro, the leader of the cult, in a successful effort to avoid the casualties of an all-out battle royale. If the initial departure from the book upset fans of the source, it was this sharp one-eighty that drove away the other half of the audience, resigning the closing moments to a tepid crawl in which everyone essentially lives happily ever after.
