10 Infuriating Movie Sub-Plots That Are Still Unresolved

2. The Avengers - Just How Did Thor Get Back To Earth?

At the end of Thor, the destruction of the Bifröst left our titular hero stranded on Asgard and separated from his 'love' Jane Foster. I save love because, despite some strong performances from Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, the big romance presented in the film felt more than a little flat. Believable storytelling or not, there was one underlying cliff hanger at the end of Thor. He was unable to return to Earth to reunite with Jane, nor, more significantly, team up with Iron Man, the Hulk and Captain America, in The Avengers. Naturally we assumed the big screen team up would offer some big explanation of how the God of Thunder was able to make it back to Earth to stop his brother Loki and the Chitauri. Nope. He just appears, riding on top of a plane, ready to capture Loki. No explanation is made as to how he knows his brother is alive (he last saw him plunge to his 'death' off the Bifröst Bridge) or how he made the journey beyond a cursory mention of Odin and dark energy. The ending of Thor suggested that the Bifröst was irreparable and there was no possibility of returning to Earth. Yet, in the sequel Thor: The Dark World, the Bifröst was up and running again. Turns out it wasn't so much destroyed as a little bit broken. As to how the Bifröst was fixed, I guess we'll never know. Maybe Heimdall found a user manual tucked away in the vaults of Asgard?
