1. Skyfall - What Happened To Quantum Or The Missing Agent File?
Skyfall may be one of the greatest Bond films ever produced, but it's not as perfect as you think. As the continuation of the franchise and a film in its own right, Skyfall is responsible for dropping not one but two big subplots. Both had a massive impact on Daniel Craig's incarnation of James Bond and yet by the end of Skyfall, he seemed to have forgotten them both. First up is Quantum, the criminal organisation that became SPECTRE for the 21st Century. Whereas the threat of SPECTRE built and built through the Bond franchise from Dr. No up the explosive volcano-lair confrontation with Blodfeld in You Only Live Twice, Quantum went...nowhere. Dominic Greene, one of its figureheads, may have died but the organisation was still going strong by the time the credits rolled on Quantum Of Solace. Perhaps they were destroyed or considerably weakened from the threat they once were between Quantum Of Solace and Skyfall. Perhaps they will return. Either way, Skyfall offered no answers. Perhaps you could argue that times have moved on. After all, Goldfinger took a break from SPECTRE, maybe that's what Skyfall did. But that doesn't excuse the sub plot within the film; the missing agent files. James Bond almost died trying to recover them. The film's villain Raoul Silva released the identities of the first NATO agents on the list, causing panic in the highest reaches of the British government. M's job was in jeopardy, enough so to warrant a public hearing. Yet somewhere down the line, the sub plot is forgotten completely as the attention turns to Javier Bardem's Silva. We can only guess where that agent file is now and if more agents were in jeopardy. Maybe we'll never know, or maybe it'll turn up in the next Bond. Even great films are capable of dropping the ball sometimes, though judging by the list, perhaps dropped sub plots are something superhero films are more guilty of than most. What do you think? Are you still frustrated by these unanswered story lines? Are there are sub plots in other films you find equally frustrating. Let us know in the comments below!
