10 Infuriating Movie Sub-Plots That Are Still Unresolved

4. The Star Wars Saga - What Happened To The Metachlorians? Who Was Syfo Dyas? And How Did Leia Remember Her Mother?

The prequel trilogy has a lot to answer for. It had one simple job; establish the events that led to the rise of the Empire, Darth Vader, the fall of the Jedi and Luke and Leia's birth. Did it achieve that mission? Yes, but it made one hell of a mess getting there and left us with a number of unresolved sub-plots. Starting with Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, we were introduced to the 'science' behind the force. It turns out Jedi have Metachlorians, microscopic life forms that reside within people. The more Metachlorians, the stronger in the force you are. It wasn't asked for. It wasn't needed. It ruined all the mysticism surrounding the Jedi purely to explain away Anakin's immaculate conception with a cringeworthy Jesus comparison. What's worse is that George Lucas didn't do anything interesting with it, and the science behind the Jedi became one of many dropped sub-plots like the deceased Syfo Dyas, who ordered the creation of the clone armies on Kamino. Obi Wan Kenobi and us, the audience, never got any explanation for that, just as we never got any explanation for how Leia remembered her mother. Padme...a woman George Lucas wrote as dying moments after her birth because of...well, we're guess it was a broken heart. Obviously her mothering instinct wasn't strong enough to live for her children. Or did George Lucas forget that she wasn't around in the original trilogy until the last minute?
