5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Just What Is Hawkeye's Role In SHIELD?

Just what was Hawkeye up to during the events of Captain America: The Winter Solider and Agents Of SHIELD season one? His presence (or lack thereof) in the organisation is one of the on-going sub plots of the Marvel universe, ever since he took on that mysterious role as sentry in Thor. It's hard to imagine that Hawkeye simply sat out of the drama surrounding HYDRA's take down of SHIELD. His colleagues Black Widow and Captain America were right there in the midst of the action, while Agent Coulson and his team raced across the globe in a desperate attempt to regain control when friends became enemies before their very eyes. Worse still, for such a €˜key€™ member of SHIELD , he wasn't even given a passing reference in the film or show. Kevin Feige has stated that Hawkeye (along with Bruce Banner / The Hulk) will play a key role in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron and that may serve as the redemption for the character who sat out most of his last film under the control of Loki. But until he reappears next year (unless he make a surprise, but unlikely cameo in Agents Of SHIELD), his role in the fall of SHIELD remains an unresolved mystery...
