10 Ingenious Uses Of End Credits Songs In Movies

5. If I Didn’t Have You – Monsters, Inc.

Monsters, Inc. is - above anything else - a film about friendship. Whether its the blossoming relationship between Sully and Boo, or the indestructible bromance between Mike and Sully, friendship is at the very heart of this Pixar classic.

So it was a genius idea to let both John Goodman and Billy Crystal, the voices behind Sully and Mike, sing the end credits song: If I Didn't Have You. This charming song of friendship that closed Monsters, Inc. is made all the sweeter hearing the distinctively gruff voice of Sully and the high-pitched tinkle of Mike's voice singing to, and often about, each other. Technically the second musical collaboration between the two, after their beautiful earlier rendition of 'Put that thing back where it came back from, or so help me', but here the two actors are able to properly show off their great singing voices.

The song not only served as a perfect encapsulation of the theme but, alongside the beautiful Pixar animation, makes the standard end credits worth watching. If I Didn't Have You also managed to pick up an Oscar for Best Original Song for regular Pixar songwriter Randy Newman, solidifying its status as a classic tune.

An avid cinephile, love Trainspotting (the film, not the hobby), like watching bad films ironically (The Room, Cats) and hate my over-reliance on brackets (they’re handy for a quick aside though).
