9. Last Minute Title Card - Hellboy: The Crooked Man

Hellboy returned to screens in 2024, with Jack Kesy being the next man to portray the character after Ron Perlman and David Harbour. The Crooked Man may have received mixed reviews, and struggled at the box office, but at least it took the franchise in a different direction, rather than trying to replicate what had already come before it.

The whole thing felt like an indie-horror flick right from the very beginning. This includes the incredibly punchy title card. Within seconds of the film's beginning, there is no elaborate title sequence, instead "Hellboy: The Crooked Man" is simply plastered across the screen, itself slightly crookedly, in something that looks like it could have been done on Powerpoint.

Although this fits perfectly with the feel of the rest of the film, it does look slightly lower-budget than perhaps was initially intended. According to director Brian Taylor, the aim was for this not to feel slick and polished, but the production essentially ran out of money, and so he ultimately designed and added the title card in from home.

It may have come from necessity, but the way the movie title is stamped across the screen is unique, and certainly helped to set the tone of proceedings right from the start.
