10 Insane MCU Rumours Everyone Wanted To Be True
5. Hela Returns As Lady Death - Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame
The Rumour
Thor: Ragnarok introduced Thor's villainous half-sister Hela (Cate Blanchett), and though she seemingly died at film's end, that didn't stop the rampant rumour that she would be returning for both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
This was in part spurred on by Mark Ruffalo seeming to suggest that Blanchett had worked with him on the two Avengers sequels, and also the theory that Hela would rematerialise as Lady Death, the literal personification of death.
In the comics, Thanos' (Josh Brolin) quest to annihilate half the universe was motivated by his love for Lady Death, and with Hela proclaiming herself "the Goddess of Death" in Thor: Ragnarok, who better would fit the bill?
What Actually Happened
Lady Death never appears in either movie, with Thanos' quest being entirely his own crusade to "correct" overpopulation and resource scarcity throughout the universe.
In an interview during Infinity War's press tour, the Russos confirmed that they didn't include Lady Death because they weren't interested in delivering a mere 1:1 adaptation of the comics.
