2. Knife Fight - Mission: Impossible II (2000)
Simple hand-to-hand combat seemingly isn't dangerous enough for Tom Cruise, who decided to raise the stakes in Mission: Impossible II's climactic battle by having a razor-sharp blade get perilously close to his eyeball. John Woo suggested that the blade stop 'near' his eye, but much to the director's dismay Cruise decided that the blade would stop only a quarter of an inch from his face. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVUsVW87kSk The stunt used a real knife, which was connected to a cable that had been precisely measured to stop when it reached its destination. Co-star Dougray Scott must have been terrified during filming as Cruise insisted the Scottish actor use his full strength to make the brawl more believable. Had the tiniest thing gone wrong, Scott would have been powerless to prevent an accident, and would most likely have killed Tom Cruise in front of the entire crew.
