10 Insane Reasons Movies Were Forced To Change Their Titles

8. 'Captain America' Changed To 'The First Avenger' In Foreign Markets To Avoid P*ssing Them Off

Captain America Captain America was given the sub-title The First Avenger in Western markets just to make sure that audiences knew it was going to tie in with Phase One of Marvel's The Avengers, yet due to a perceived political sensitivity in the likes of Ukraine, Russia and South Korea, that sub-title was adopted as the entire title, dropping the Captain America moniker completely. It's one of those ridiculous changes that makes no sense, given that the name Captain America is repeatedly dropped throughout the movie, and short of cutting each of these lines out, what on Earth is the point? Furthermore, if the issue is that these countries don't want solipsistic Americana being thrown in their face, then maybe they just shouldn't release the movie altogether? While the film is a pleasantly self-aware exploration of war-time national agendas, it's also awash in plenty of typical American iconography, something far more in-your-face than a simple title.
