10 Insanely Hyped Movies That Flopped HARD
2. Fantastic Four
Hopes were high for Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot. The up-and-coming filmmaker blended sci-fi and superheroism spectacularly for his previous effort Chronicle, and the consensus was that he was the perfect fit for Marvel's first family.
Reports of substantial reshoots and off-set bedlam didn't dash those hopes entirely. Fox touted the movie as a Batman Begins-style revamp of the source material and the fans were optimistic that Trank and his team could pull that off.
Sadly, it wasn't to be. Almost nothing about Fantastic Four worked, from its inconsistent tone to ropey CGI effects. It was as though the friction between Trank, his cast and the studio spilt over into the movie itself, and the result was a joyless superhero slog that was a met with a reception rockier than The Thing.
Word of mouth and those rotten reviews were enough to sink Fantastic Four, which made $168 million against a budget that is said to sit somewhere between $120–155 million. For a superhero movie in this day and age, that's peanuts.
