10 Insanely Intense Scenes In PG-13 Movies

5. Drag Me To Hell (2006) - Chin Gumming

The Dark Knight Dead Batman

As touched upon earlier when comparing Jurassic Park and Jaws, there’s a difference between a movie with scary bits in, and a flat out horror film. Horror films are more likely to be unsuitable for young viewers since they are designed specifically to terrify and/or be horrific, and children unused to horror conventions are likely to simply be traumatised.

And so we come to Sam Rami’s Drag Me to Hell, a movie that ends with the plucky protagonist, who is terrorised throughout (often in her own home, a concept which censors try to protect young viewers from), and then ultimately dragged into hell by fiery demons. Sleep tight, kids!

In fairness, the tone of the movie is much lighter than most horror films. Demonic possession might sound like pretty heavy subject matter, but at one point the demon possesses a goat and, as you’d expect, that bit is pretty darn funny.

Horror fans can appreciate the film's dark comedy, but it’s more than likely than a young child is just going to be terrified. The most intense scene is when the old gypsy lady appears in the backseat of Christine’s (Alison Lohman) car and attacks her. It’s a long attack sequence which includes: earrings being ripped out, eyelids being stapled together, a ruler being jammed down the hag’s throat, and, in a moment of pure Rami grossness, the hag wraps her toothless gums around Christine’s jaw and proceeds to suck away on her chin! Yeugh!
