10 Insanely Intense Scenes In PG-13 Movies
2. Taken (2008) - Torture Scene
When Taken was first released in the UK it was given an ‘18’ rating - adults only. So to see it with a PG-13 rating in the US definitely raises an eyebrow or two.
Taken is a heart-pounding action thriller that sees Liam Neeson beat up and shoot lots of baddies in order to rescue his kidnapped daughter. So far, so standard fare.
But the context of the abduction is far more adult than pre-teen friendly. Specifically, that his seventeen year old child has been kidnapped in order to be auctioned off as a sex slave. Indeed, the theme of sex trafficking pervades the movie, with brothels and slave auctions a grim backdrop to all the fisticuffs.
Bryan (Neeson) is determined to do whatever it takes to find his daughter, including tying one of the main goons up and repeatedly shocking him with electricity. It’s a sustained scene of torture with a lot of realistic, agonising wailing and flailing. Once the information has been divulged, Bryan coldly leaves the goon to fry to death.
No time for conventional heroic virtues - he's got a daughter to find!
