10 Insanely Intense Scenes In PG-13 Movies

3. The Woman In Black (2012) - The Woman Hangs Herself

The Woman in Black is the story of Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) visiting Eel Marsh House a.k.a. The House of 1,000 Jump Scares, and discovering that therein dwells the ghost of a Woman dressed in Black. Favourite pastimes of said Woman include behaving like a pop-up internet screamer and coercing children into killing themselves.

Yes, that’s right: the opening scene of this PG-13 movie is three very young girls throwing themselves out of a window, with child suicide a recurring theme throughout.

When it comes to insanely intense scenes there’s plenty to choose from. Arthur’s first night at the house is an unrelenting assault on the nerves, with Daniel Radcliffe creeping from room to obviously haunted room with nothing but a candle to protect himself from the onslaught of screaming ghost faces. The scene that is clearly far too strong for a PG-13 rating is when Arthur follows some footsteps into the nursery.

In the build-up we get the obligatory spooky toy box music with close ups of uncanny doll faces, before Arthur spots the ghostly Woman. She then suddenly hangs herself from the ceiling, complete with a crunchy neck breaking sound. There’s even a follow-up jump scare after this when Arthur foolishly lights a match only for it to reveal a shrieking ghost-child.

The producers of this movie knew that kids would watch it - they cast Harry Potter as the lead role! One can only assume their plan was to, like the Woman herself, terrify as many children as possible.
