10 Inside Movie Jokes You Probably Didn’t Get

2. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Okay, this is kind of a cheat, since the entire movie is an inside joke, so I'll save you some time and only list one. Towards the movie's climax, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, playing themselves, mention that one of the reasons to do a film is because they owe the director a favor and then directly turn to the camera. This, of course, is a nod to director Kevin Smith, who did them a favor years earlier by sending their script of Good Will Hunting to Miramax, which ended up not only being produced but earned two Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay. Smith later joked that he should've just turned all of Affleck's adlibs in his movie Chasing Amy into a script to earn an Oscar himself.
