It's a rare truth told by a parent regarding the hardships of having children and having to put some of your own dreams on the line in order to be a good mother or father. And sometimes it takes a made-up character and some words of wisdom to truly impact upon children who haven't considered the huge things their parents may have done for them. While out of context this sounds like a slightly negative quote, it's also a true one. How many children while growing up truly appreciate the sacrifices their parents make? In The Royal Tenenbaums, family doubles as both the source of all the characters problems, and their solution.
