It's so damn true: no preempted fight ever allowed it's participants the element of surprise. The fact that it's coming from the slightly-calculating and impatient Zissou makes the fighting advice all the more solid. Anderson was once quoted as saying: 'I guess when I think about it, one of the things I like to dramatise, and what is sometimes funny, is someone coming unglued. I don't consider myself someone who is making the argument that I support these choices. I just think it can be funny' If there is any one character who has come unglued in The Life Aquatic, it's Steve Zissou; although his advice probably shouldn't be taken literally (as in, don't go out and sock someone in the face just because Zissou says you can).
